My Nighttime Skincare Routine

IMG_1947

I love my ritual for getting ready for bed. It sets me in the mood to sleep and calms down my entire body. Part of that ritual is my skincare routine. Every single night I take the time to care for my skin and make sure it’s prepped for bed. Since I’ve moved into the new house, I’ve been trying really hard to focus more on skincare, because taking care of your skin is so important, and I’ve seen a huge improvement! I don’t break out as much, my skin is moisturized and not as dry, and even my makeup looks better when I put it on!

The first thing I do when I start getting ready for bed is remove my makeup. I love using the Ponds Cold Cream Cleanser to do this. I slather it all over my face and neck to get rid of the makeup. Then, I take a damp wash cloth and wipe it all away. This product does a great job of getting rid of makeup, even when I’m wearing a lot for a special occasion. It also doesn’t dry out my skin like other makeup removers.

After that, I go over my eyes with some Clinique Take the Day Off on a cotton square to make sure I’ve got all my eye makeup off. Sometimes waterproof mascara or eyeliner can be difficult to remove with the Ponds Cold Cream, so this just ensures I’ve got everything off.

(If I’m not wearing any makeup that day, or very light makeup, I’ll usually just use a Ponds Makeup Removing Wipe or wash my face with Neutrogena Oil-Free Face Wash, which aren’t pictured.)

My next step depends on the state of my skin. If I’m breaking out, or if I know something stressful is coming and a breakout might start, I use The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil. I put a few drops of this in my hands and work it into my skin. This is great for naturally treating acne. I’ve been using it for about a year and have seen a big difference. If my skin is pretty normal, I’ll use the Pixi Rose Oil Blend and apply it the same way I apply the tea tree oil. This oil really helps moisturize and nourish my skin before bed. I never use these oils in the daytime, because I’m trying to get rid of oil on my face, but at night, I want all the moisture I can get.

Next I use my new favorite under eye cream from Elf. Seriously, this stuff is awesome and the best part is it’s only $10. I was looking for a travel eye cream recently, and I couldn’t even find a travel size for that price! This stuff works great. This is the Illuminating Eye Cream and feels so good on your skin. I put a dab on my ring fingers, and work the product on my under eye and outer corners. When it’s almost gone, I swipe it up on my eyelids to finish.

Finally I finish my routine with my all-time, absolute favorite moisturizer ever. The Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Face Cream is amazing. It’s a little pricey, but totally worth it. I’ve been using it for years and love it. It smells amazing and really works into the skin nicely. I love how my skin feels after I use it, and even the next morning.

After finishing this routine, I can finish getting ready for bed and I know my skin will look better in the morning. No matter how tired I am, I always remove my makeup and apply moisturizer. Seriously, even when I’m drunk as a skunk, I try my best to remove all my makeup with a wipe and put some moisturizer on, that’s how important it is!

xoxo, Meg

    1. I love Sephora! The store itself has so many different brands to choose from, which I love. I’ve also used the Sephora brand for eye cream and some makeup, and I’ve really liked it! Their own brand is often cheaper than some other brands, but still really good quality! 🙂
