Thank God that August has been cool with tons of rain, because that kind of weather is my jam, and August is one of my least favorite months. There are no holidays (except my SIL’s birthday!) and it’s just this awkward month between summer and fall. But, I did have lots of things I loved during this month, so let’s get into it!
I hosted Bachelor in Paradise this Monday, and I tried out three new recipes, and I’d say that most were 100% winners. I made these Ham & Cheese Crescents that were really good. I added a bit more cream cheese than the recipe specified, because, cream cheese. They were awesome! They also heat up really well the next day. I made these Sweet & Spicy Sausage Bites that were a huge hit. They were really easy to make – they only need like 4 ingredients – and they were delicious. I would make these again with zero changes. I also made the Pioneer Woman’s Beef Enchilada Dip from her book Come and Get It! It was really cheesy and good, but I felt it was missing something. I think next time I might add a can of Rotel tomatoes and see if that improves the taste.
Last weekend Hubby and I stayed home and worked on the house a bit. We took care of some small items that were on our list like change lightbulbs and mow the lawn, but we also hung up a bunch of stuff on our wall. Back home in Nebraska, we had this gallery wall above our couch in our living room. Since our new house is open-concept, and there isn’t a wall behind that couch, we didn’t really know what to do. So, we added it above the couch in the sitting room. It looks so good. I really love how eclectic it turned out and everything on the wall has a special meaning to us. We’ve decided that over the years we’ll grow and evolve the wall, but it’s something we both really love.
I don’t know about you, but I’ve never really been a person who loves stand-up comedy. When I did happen to see it, I would enjoy it, but I was never really a big fan. My husband on the other hand, loves it. So when we started dating, he would try and get me to watch different comedians, and it turns out that some of these people are like really funny. So, we’ve been watching a few different people on Netflix that have specials like John Mulaney, Iliza Shlesinger and Gabriel Iglesias. These are all super funny people, and if you need a laugh, check them out!
My vanity is slowing coming together, and this weekend we installed the LED lights around my mirror. Hubby drilled a hole through the mirror for the cords to go through, and it looks really good. He bought these LED lights on a sticked piece of paper, and it’s working pretty well, but I can tell down the line they’ll lose their stickiness and fall off. I can already see a few places where it’s loosening. But in the meantime, it looks great, and it’s so nice to put on my makeup in a fancy lighted mirror!
I got a Pumpkin Spice Latte on the day they came out and it was so worth it! Just as good as I remembered. It was nice because I took some time to sit down and work and read, which was really fun.
Lately I’ve been using the library a lot more. I’m trying to save some money and trying to not buy as many books. So, I’m using the library for their ebooks, and it’s been so handy! I don’t even need to go to the library. The books just automatically download to my Kindle app on my phone. It’s been great.
I did a little bit of reading in August, but not as much as July. I finished three books: Bachelor Nation by Amy Kaufman which was a great behind-the-scenes look at The Bachelor; On Mystic Lake by Kristin Hannah; and Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan. All were great reads, but my favorite was Crazy Rich Asians by far!
Currently Reading: The High Tide Club by Mary Kay Andrews
Hope ya’ll had a great August!
