If you’re a regular reader of The Midwestern Mrs., then you know that I am quite literally obsessed with fall. It’s my favorite season, with winter trailing close behind. I love fall not only for the crisp, cooler weather, exciting football games, and pumpkin everything, but for all the fun activities there are to do during this season. There are so many things that you can only do in fall, like visiting a pumpkin patch. This fall will be my first autumn in Kansas City, so I’ve created a bucket list of all the things I want to do before the season is over. Create your own fall bucket list with my ideas, or with your own fall desires!
- Drink a Pumpkin Spice Latte
I’ll admit that I’ve already done this and it’s not even technically fall! I went to Starbucks the day the PSL was debuted this year and enjoyed it so much! I may have had four more pumpkin flavored drinks since then, too… I really love drinking these, and I don’t care what other people think. They’re delicious and they only come around once a year!
- Visit a Pumpkin Patch
I haven’t been to a pumpkin patch in years, but I think it’d be so much fun to go this year! We have a beautiful new house with a cute front porch that I’d love to decorate with pumpkins! I always struggle with buying pumpkins though, because they’re out now at the grocery stores, despite the 90° weather. Wouldn’t the pumpkins rot before Halloween in this heat?
- Make Apple Something
I really love apples, and I always see these great crockpot recipes for using apples. Apple sauce, apple butter, apple cider – they all look so good! Then there is apple crisp, apple pie, pork with apples, I could go on and on, but I’ll save you the reading. I’d like to try a new apple recipe this year. I’m not sure what that is yet, but I’ll be sure to post when I do!
- Go to a Football Game
I grew up a Huskers fan and a Chiefs fan, but this year I’ve just about abandoned the Huskers. Sorry, Frost! I’d love to go to a Kansas City football game this year though. I love tailgating before the games and cheering on my favorite team from the stands. I prefer the weather to be a little chillier, so I’ll probably wait until later October to get tickets. As much as I’d love to go to every home game, NFL tickets are expensive, y’all. So most likely we’ll just pick one and be content with that until next year.
5. Watch a Movie Marathon
There are so many movies that my husband wants me to see, so we’ve decided to do a marathon of some of the movies. These are mostly older movies series like Star Wars and Jurassic Park, but I’m super excited. Hopefully we’ll grab lots of blankets, have the windows open to the cool, fall air and drink hot cocoa (or apple pie wine!) while we binge. Do you have any movie series you recommend for a marathon? Let me know your suggestions!
6. Go for a Hike
I really love taking my dog out for long walks (we have a great trail right behind our house!) and I’d love to find somewhere new to take her on a easy hike. I’m sure there are great parks and hiking trails around Kansas City, so Hubby and I will have to do a little research. Even if it’s like an hour away, going for an early-morning drive to hike sounds amazing. This is the part of me that wants to live in Colorado peeking out!
7. Take a Nap
Okay, so you’re probably thinking that I can take a literally during any season, and you’d be correct. But fall naps are the best naps hands down. My absolute favorite naps are when the weather outside is chilly and I have the windows open. I’ll have a blanket covering me on the couch, and football will be muted on the TV screen. If you haven’t had a nap like that in your life, you are missing out!
